The presence of fear normally displays a lack of future-vision and a strong focus on circumstances of the present. While this isn’t the case every time (some people ask themselves fearful “What if” questions that actually create fear of the future), it does tend to be a general truth.
If you tend to love in a prison of fear, allow me to ask you a question – what do you want your future to look like?
We have a transitional home for women that my wife and I volunteer our time with; we mentor some of their leaders and we give teachings for some of their events. I often share with them that the women who make it through the program have the strongest reason “Why” they should stay, and the ones who leave early are those who lose sight of their “Why.”
This is the value of visualization; not the extreme of visualizing success without work, but the value of seeing the future that you want to experience that causes motivation toward action. Sports players do this on a consistent basis – they see themselves hitting the home run, scoring the touchdown, or winning the gold medal.
If you have fears that are holding you back, I encourage you to visualize the type of life that you would want: the time that you would like to spend with your family, the charities that you would like to give towards, the trips that you would like to take, the family members that you would like to help, the people you can bless with your time and energy.
What is stronger – your fear or your future? Your reasons Why or your fears of Why Not?
Just a thought…
